Welcome to Kennebunk Elementary School! If you are looking for an exceptionally exciting and progressive community-centered public school, you have found it… KES is a Kindergarten through third grade school with 6 kindergarten classrooms, and 5 classrooms at the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade levels.
Among other things, we offer Responsive Classroom practices, full-day kindergarten, enrichment at all levels, targeted individualized instruction for all students, weekly specials for all students including art, music, physical education, library, STEM, and foreign language (Spanish) as well as many other exciting offerings (see programming and curriculum) each day. The KES Chorus, more than 80 students strong, is open to all students and performs each Friday morning at 8:15 am during our weekly Friday Morning Meeting. We encourage you to attend!
Our incredible facility is second to none. KES opened in 2004 and is a 21st century school in every way. We offer 1:1 Chromebook access starting in second grade and we feature Smartboards and iPads in each classroom, a livestream forum, a Lego Robotics Mac lab, a Windows lab, Lightspeed FM classroom audio enhancement, Identakid online check-in and visitor screening , Power Announcement automatic communication system, and a parent portal on our live website.
At KES all teachers are Highly Qualified, and we boast exceptional assessment scores. Our last State (SBAC) assessment found KES not only meeting, but exceeding all targets set by the State, across all subjects, and all subgroups. Similarly, our NWEA (2nd and 3rd grade) assessment scores show all classrooms achieving scores 2 to 6 points above the National average. Programming includes Reading Street, Everyday Math 4, Science Companion, Handwriting Without Tears, and Keyboarding Without Tears. We also offer a wide array of services including Title 1, Special Education, Response to Intervention for both academics and behavior, full time guidance services, Second Step social curriculum, Dr. Ross Greene’s Collaborative and Proactive Solutions model, and a strong determination to help all students find success.
Our beautiful school is located in a woodsy area with close proximity to the center of coastal Kennebunk, Maine. Maine’s pristine Eastern Trail is a wonderful resource that can be accessed directly from the school yard by students, staff, and families.
Both the Kennebunk Elementary PTA, and the Ed Foundation of the Kennebunks and Arundel meet regularly onsite at KES. These organizations fund field trips, artists-in-residence, special events, and academic programs throughout the year. Kennebunk Parks and Recreation offers before-school and after-school programs at KES throughout the week, and both Kennebunk and Kennebunkport Parks and Recreation offer athletics and programming at KES on the weekends. With our superintendent and district offices located in-house at KES as well, it is easy to understand why KES is thought of, by many, as the center of our community.
