KES Newsletter - March 30, 2018

Hello KES Families,

I hope you are well!  It was great seeing so many of you at our 1st grade Concert last Friday. Seeing our 1st graders all dressed so nicely  on the stage, I was struck by how much they have changed and grown in their two years here at KES. It is hard to believe that next fall they will be our “big” kiddos!

And speaking of big kiddos, it was really exciting to watch the 3rd grade Egg Drop presentations in the gym this week. There were some really clever and well thought-out designs, and many eggs survived the drop intact, so the activity was clearly a nice success. I also wanted to let the parents of our 3rd graders know how focused and responsible our 3rd graders have been during these past two weeks throughout the administration of the State (MEA) assessment.  Many of them even took the time to thank me for the extra snacks we provided during the assessment. I could tell they were working really hard, and they have earned both an extra recess, as well as a surprise reward that we are currently finalizing the details of. More to come on that front, so stay tuned!

We closed out Wellness month this morning at our KES Friday Morning Meeting, and we are encouraging everyone to maintain healthy practices throughout the year. Remember 5210….Five fruits and vegetables each day, two hours or less of screen time, one hour of physical activity, and zero sugary drinks....because healthy practices shouldn’t just apply to the month of March.

We want everyone to know that we will be offering a Pre-K Parent Information night on Thursday, April 26th from 5:30-6:30pm at Sharkbites, the KES Cafe. This will be an opportunity to learn about the program, connect with staff, and see the spaces Pre-K will be using. Please see the attached flyer below for more information.

Once again Kindergarten Jump Start, a five week literacy program for incoming K students, will be held at KES this summer from 8:00am to 12:00pm from July 9th through August 10th. There is no cost to register your incoming Kindergartener for this program. Be on the lookout for a district-wide mailing to be sent home in mid-April for parents of incoming kindergarten students providing registration information for KJS. Kennebunk Parks & Rec will also be offering a reasonably priced afternoon “JUMP START CAMP” at KES from 12:00 PM-5:30 PM for KJS students again this year. A flyer with additional  information will be included with the general district-wide KJS mailing in mid-April.

For more great information about KES, please find the second edition of our student newspaper, THE KES NEWS attached below. I hope those of you who celebrate Easter have a happy Easter, and that everyone has a great weekend!

Yours in Education,
Mr. Quinn
