RSU 21 Names Kevin Crowley Interim Superintendent of Schools for 2014-2015

On Monday, May 19, the RSU 21 Board of School Directors appointed Kevin P. Crowley, Ph.D., of Kennebunk as Interim Superintendent of Schools for the 2014-2015 school year.  Dr. Crowley will replace current superintendent Andrew Dolloff, who will leave the post on June 30 to take a similar position in Yarmouth.

Kevin is a highly regarded educational leader in the district, having served for seven years as the principal of Sea Road Elementary School in Kennebunk and, for the past four years, as principal of Mildred L. Day Elementary School in Arundel.  He came to the district in 2003 after serving as an elementary principal in Natick, Massachusetts for nine years where, in 1997, Johnson Elementary School was named a Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.  Kevin was named the Massachusetts Elementary Principal of the Year in 2000.

Dr. Crowley is a Massachusetts native who graduated with honors from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Business Administration.  He then earned a Masters of Education from Framingham State College in Framingham, Massachusetts and a Ph.D. in Educational Administration from Boston College.

Prior to beginning his career as a school administrator, Kevin taught in two elementary schools in Natick over a span of five years.

Kevin Knight, chairperson of the RSU 21 Board of School Directors, cited Crowley’s reputation as an educational leader and knowledge of the district as two key factors in the Board’s decision to appoint him to the position.  “Dr. Crowley comes to the job with instant credibility from his years of outstanding school leadership in the district.  We are confident he will take on the tasks and initiatives that we have been working on and move us forward without missing a beat,” Knight said.

Dr. Crowley will begin transitioning to the position immediately and will take over full-time on July 1.  The RSU 21 Board will be seeking an interim principal to replace Kevin at Mildred L. Day School for the coming school year.
