KENNEBUNK, Maine - Kennebunk High School custodian Terri Baird finished in the top three for the 2024 A. Burleigh Oxton Award for Excellence Award, which is given to a school custodian who goes above and beyond their normal duties and is passionate about helping students.
The award is given out each year by the Educational Plant Maintenance Association of Maine. This year’s top prize was given to a custodian at Waterville High School.
Baird, a beloved figure among students and staff at KHS, has worked for RSU 21 for nearly 30 years. She is often seen volunteering her time at school events long after her workday has ended.
“The love from students and staff is on display every day I walk into the building,” Baird said. “In many ways, it feels like I already won, just being in the top three for this award.”
As a testament to her unwavering passion for helping the student body, Baird was given the “Friends of the Class” Award by KHS seniors at the end of the 2023-2024 school year.
“Terri’s big heart and dedication to the students and faculty day in and day out is unmatched,” said RSU 21 Facilities Manager Jeremy Bryant. “She has proven herself to be a trusted confidant and advisor to many young people as they work their way through high school. We are so lucky to have her.”
