Dear RSU 21 community,
This week, President Trump was sworn into office, and with that came significant policy changes.
One key change is a pledge from the Trump Administration to conduct large-scale immigration enforcement actions targeting undocumented immigrants. On Tuesday, January 21, the president reportedly signed an executive order allowing these actions to take place in schools and places of worship, locations that had previously been considered off-limits.
I want to be clear: our district remains unwaveringly committed to the academic success of every student, regardless of immigration status or home language, and will work tirelessly to ensure the safety and support of all our students and families.
If a family experiences disruption, such as a parent's detention, we will immediately work to ensure the child's safety and educational continuity. We'll use emergency contact information and coordinate with social services to provide support.
Our school district is more than just a collection of buildings—it's a community that protects and values every family. We encourage you to keep your emergency contact information updated and to discuss family preparedness with your children.
We will be sending you more specific information about our district’s procedures on this matter next week, but if you have concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact my office directly. We are here to support you.
Sincerely,
Terri I. Cooper, Ed.D
RSU 21 Superintendent
