Operational Snapshot
The RSU 21 Transportation Department is committed to the safe, reliable, and efficient transportation of all students across the district. Our team is made up of 54 dedicated staff members, including 32 school bus drivers, 17 bus aides, two mechanics, two office staff members, and a transportation manager.
On a typical school day, RSU 21 buses travel more than 2,000 route miles transporting students to and from school, serving all six RSU 21 schools, local and regional technical training centers, and a variety of specialized out-of-district programs. To put that distance into perspective, 2,000 miles is roughly the driving distance from Kennebunk, Maine, to Denver, Colorado.
When athletic trips, field trips, and other district transportation needs are included, the department averages can surge to approximately 3,330 miles per day—the equivalent of driving from Kennebunk, Maine, to Los Angeles, California every school day.
Bus Route Information
Families can conveniently access student transportation details through the BusRight app, a secure and user-friendly platform that represents a significant advancement in communication and tracking technology.
BusRight allows families to view assigned bus numbers and planned pickup and drop-off times, along with real-time GPS tracking of their student's bus. The app also provides notifications when a bus begins and ends its route, GPS-based estimated arrival times that adjust for traffic and travel conditions, and direct urgent communications from the Transportation Department.
