Hello KES Families,

I hope you are all well today….We are excited to be hosting a Family Math Night at KES on the evening of December 11th, so I wanted to start today by suggesting you SAVE the DATE! This is a game-night event where your children (grades Pre-K-2) will have the opportunity to introduce you to some fun math games and activities that they have been learning at school. Please see the attached flyer for details, and join us for some family fun on December 11th!

It seems as though winter has made an early appearance, so thank you for sending the children in with all of the snow gear they need to enjoy recess. Students need snowpants and boots to play in the snow at recess, so they don’t end up spending the afternoon in wet pants and shoes.

It was great seeing so many Pre-K parents from Mrs. Provencher, Miss Dill, Mrs.Judkins and Mrs. Bishop’s rooms enjoying Harvest Lunch on Thursday at Sharkbites: The KES Cafe. We look forward to having Mrs. Swan, Mrs. French, Mrs. Kent, and Mrs. Compton’s parents join us as we do it again next Thursday! I love the way the little ones call it “chicken-on-the-bone”... While our Pre-K students generally enjoy “family-style” lunch in their classrooms, all other grades eat at Sharbites each day, and parents are encouraged to join us for lunch when they can, so feel free to call ahead and order a lunch or bring your own. All of the kids love it when someone’s mom, dad or grandparent is at the table!

Our second graders did a wonderful job making wreaths this week with Wreaths Across America event coordinator, Kelly Hinkle. The WAA convoy is not coming to Kennebunk this year, but they wanted to encourage us to continue making wreaths, so they developed a special program just for KES. Check out the photo on our Twitter account @KbunkElementary. Along similar patriotic lines, parents still have two weeks to send in home made scarfs for Operation Gratitude. KES has provided 580 home made scarves for Operation Gratitude since 2011.The scarves become part of care packages that are sent to active US service members serving in cold climates over the holidays. Please reach out to Mrs. Walters if you have any questions at, and thank you for sending in those scarves!

This morning we were grateful to have twenty-one members of the Peer Helpers club from KHS on hand to help everyone’s day “Start with Hello.” They greeted all of our students, staff and families as they entered the gym for Friday Morning Meeting, and they also supported our school counselor, Miss Wright and our School Resource Officer, Audra Higgins, introduce “Kindness”, the KES Character Trait for December. One of the other things that we also love to do at Friday Morning Meetings is recognize students for significant accomplishments that happen outside of school, so if your child receives awards, recognition, or hits milestones in music, sports, performance, or anything that they are proud of, please let us know and we will mention it at our assembly.

Check out the nice photo of KES Kids Chorus members on the front page of the current issue of the Post. If you missed their performance at the Kennebunk Tree Lighting, they will be singing again at the Arundel Tree Lighting on December 7th at 6:00pm. They will also perform at the Nonantum’s two Holiday Luncheons, Saturday, December 1st at 11:00am, and Saturday, December 7th, at 11:00am.

Just a reminder…. members of the KES community who could benefit from an opportunity to get a free Holiday Haircut by local stylist and KES parent Amanda Harnum have chance to do so on Monday, December 17th, and Tuesday, December 18th, from 3:00pm to 5:00pm at KES. If you would like to take advantage of this offer, please contact Amanda at 251-9213 or to schedule a time.

And more reminder... picture retakes with Lifetouch will take place on Wednesday, December 5th.

Have a great weekend!

Mr. Quinn
