KES Newsletter - November 9, 2018

Hello KES Families,

Happy Friday! I want to start by thanking the thirty-five veteran and active service KES family members who participated in our annual KES Veterans Day Celebration thing morning . We were excited to share updates on our work with Operation Gratitude, Honor Flight, Wreaths Across America, and we were excited to add Pets for Vets to our list of patriotic initiatives. Last years Square 1 Art fundraiser here at KES brought in more than $4,500.00 for this organization and they were incredibly grateful for the generous donation our students made possible this morning.

We were also excited to have our new School Resource Officer, Audra Higgins, officially on board full time as of this morning. Officer Audra has already become an incredible support to the students, families and staff here at KES, and we are grateful to have this wonderful support for our school.

As many of you may be aware, an individual was arrested in Kennebunk this week after impersonating a police officer. Several parents reached out to me asking what to tell young children regarding this kind of situation. I contacted the police department and they suggested that parents explain to children that police officers will always have a badge, even when they are working in everyday clothes. Anyone can ask to see the police officers badge and a real police officer will gladly identify themselves. If they ever have a doubt as to whether the person is a real police officer, they should seek out an adult and call the police immediately.

As we all know, the holidays will soon be upon us, and it is a wonderful time for most of us when things are going well, but it can be a very difficult time for families experiencing unemployment or other difficulties that may fall at this time of year. In cooperation with many generous individuals and local organizations, KES supports many of our families in many different ways throughout the year. and December is no exception. If you know of a KES family who is struggling, please let us know. We promise we will be discrete in offering support.

On a similar note, this year we are pleased to offer members of the KES community, who could benefit from this opportunity, to receive a free Holiday Haircut by local stylist and KES parent Amanda Harnum. You will have a chance to do so on Monday, December 17th, and Tuesday, December 18th, from 3:00pm to 5:00pm at KES. If you would like to take advantage of this offer, please contact Amanda at 251-9213 or to schedule a time. We thank Amanda in advance for her generosity in donating her time and expertise.

And finally, KEPTA is excited to announce that KES has a new school store! To get merchandise by Winter Break, fill out the school store order form, send in with your child to his or her classroom, and A&W Promotional Products will call when your item is ready for pick up. There are adult and kids t-shirts, adult and kids pullover hoodies, winter hats, baseball caps, cinch bags, and youth jackets for sale. Other items will be added to the store in 2019.

Happy Veterans Day!

Mr. Quinn
