KES Newsletter - May 7, 2018

Hello KES Families,

I hope you are all well today. I spent Friday at UNE scoring final senior presentations for education majors, so I am sending you just the most important elements from my “Friday” Newsletter today.

First of all, I want to say “thank you” to all of the parents and KEPTA members who did so much to recognize our dedicated staff last week during Staff Appreciation Week. We all felt very much appreciated, and we are grateful for the many thoughtful cards, gifts and food that we received. I also want to thank the parents and staff who have been serving on the KES Needs Assessment Committee. This group has been invaluable in helping us brainstorm ideas to start KES Vision work this fall as we transition from being a K through 3rd grade school, to being  Pre-K through 2nd grade school. We feel incredibly lucky to be a part of such a wonderfully supportive school community.

This morning at KES we began our three week Artist-in-Residency with African Drummer, Michael Wingfield. Funded by the Kennebunk Elementary PTA (KEPTA) and the Education Foundation of the Kennebunks and Arundel (EFKA), this wonderful multi-cultural experience benefits all students at KES, MLD and KCS, with a special focus on 3rd grade. If you are a parent of a 3rd grader, you should mark your calendar for the evening of May 25th, when all 3rd graders in the district are invited to perform with Mr. Wingfield at the new KHS Theater from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. Students who are performing will need to be at KHS by 5:30pm that evening. We also look forward to seeing 3rd grade parents here at KES this Friday for Culture Box Presentations.

Today was one of the best days of the year at KES, as we welcomed the first half of our new in-coming kindergartners for KES Kindergarten Screening.  It was great so see many new families and so many returning families. We look forward to meeting the rest of them tomorrow!

And this Friday is our Kindergarten Concert (for current kindergartners) during our Friday Morning Meeting time starting at 8:15am. If you are the parent of a kindergartner, we hope to see you here!

And finally, our Running With Character program has once again been invited to participate in the Kennebunk Beach Classic 5K Road Race.  This race benefits The Center and senior citizens in our community. We will have a Running With Character Team participating in the race, and invite any K.E.S students that want to participate to join th team.  We have been offered to join at a discounted rate of $10! Last year we had several families participate and it was a lot of fun! The race committee has even added free lunch and carnival games this year in order to attract younger participants. Because this event includes even more than our 137 RWC participants, we ask that you register an accompanying adult for the younger walkers and run/walkers. Parents, grandparents, and guardians can get the discounted rate as well! You just need to return completed registration forms to K.E.S. with an attached check for $10 (payable to The Center).  Please return this to KES (Attention: Ms. Dugas or Mrs. Goldberg) by May 25th, and they will get all of the registration materials to Carol at the Center.

Have a great week!

Yours in Education,

Mr. Quinn
