KES Newsletter - June 8, 2018

Hello KES Families,

I hope you are well. It is hard to believe that we have only two weeks left to this year. It’s been great seeing so many of you here recently for 1st Grade Reader’s Theater. Those skits are a really nice way to reinforce literacy skills. Thanks to some very hard work on the part of both students and teachers, most of our 1st graders have become really great readers this year.

This morning we had Bikes for Books at KES. It was very exciting and I was really proud of the way that the majority of students who did not win a bike were cheering and congratulating the lucky winners. If your child won a bike that they do not need, please let us know and we will make sure it goes to a student who does not have a bike. Special Thanks to the Mason’s York Lodge 22 for their incredible generosity and their support for literacy.

We have several End-of-Year events that I want to let you know about today. To start the week this coming week we planned a farewell fun event for both second and third graders. It was supposed to be a surprise, but apparently the word has gotten out! On Monday (6/11) we will have a Bounce House set up in the gym for our 2nd graders to use, and our 3rd graders will enjoy the same on Tuesday (6/12). Wednesday 6/13) will be our 3rd grade Family Breakfast Theater event in the KES gym starting at 9:00am. On Thursday (6/14) we will have our annual Flag Day Celebration starting at 8:45am around the flag pole in front of KES. Thursday (6/14) is also the day of our Summer Barbeque during lunch, so students in ordering hot lunch will have hot dogs, pasta salad and watermelon, and all students in all grades will eat outside on the courtyard, weather permitting. On Friday (6/15), our last regular Friday Morning Meeting will serve as our “Big Farewell” to half of our student body (2nd and 3rd grade) as they prepare to move up to Sea Road School. Also on Friday (6/15), we will offer “open seating” at Sharkbites, the KES Cafe with pizza for lunch, as all students in all grades will be able to sit with friends from other classrooms. On Monday (6/18) we will have Field Day for all grades. On Tuesday, (6/19) we will have our 2nd Grade Family Breakfast Theater event in the KES gym starting at 9:00am. And finally, our last student day will be Friday June 22nd. There will be no Friday Morning Meeting that day, and we will have a noon dismissal for students following lunch
