KES Newsletter - September 14, 2018

Hello KES Families,

I hope you are well looks like we are in for another dose of summer this weekend. The cooler weather this past week has been great for being back in full swing at school. We have had a great first five-day week here at KES, and it has been great seeing so many parents and grandparents joining us for lunch at Sharkbites, the KES Cafe, and for our first Friday Morning Meeting of the year this morning. Because our new Pre-K students are still acclimating to the school environment, we did not have them attend this assembly, but we will let Pre-K parents know as soon as we have set a date for Pre-K to attend our Assembly for the first time and be introduced and recognized. Friday Morning Meetings will take place every other Friday this year, so please mark your calendars with the following dates and join us at our new 8:30am start time when you can. 9/28, 10/12, 10/26, 11/9, 11/30, 12/14, 1/11, 1/25, 2/8, 3/1, 3/15, 3/29, 4/26, 5/10, 5/24, 6/14.

This morning we recognized all of the students who attended Kindergarten Jump Start this summer. We also recognized all of our new Kindergarten classrooms and all 1st and 2nd graders who moved to the area this summer and are joining us for the first time. Our new Guidance Counselor, Kelly Wright introduced KHS Girls Field Hockey Captains to our students who talked about how important Responsibility is as we start the new school year, and we reviewed our 5 simple Bus rules:

  • Seat to seat, back to back. Never stand while the bus is moving

  • No eating or drinking on the bus

  • Talk quietly with people in your seat and across the aisle only

  • Nothing out the window: no gestures, no voices, no hands, no papers

  • Respect all people and property. You don’t have to be friends, but be friendly

Even students who are transported to school by parents will still ride the bus for field trips, so please take a few minutes to review these rules with your child.

We had our first Evacuation/Fire Drill of the year this morning and our students did an amazing job walking quickly and quietly out of the building, so please compliment them for that.

If you have been accessing our car drop-off process in the morning, please look to see if any of our Walkie Talkies are in the back seat of your car. We sometimes set them down to help unbuckle children, and we are short a couple these days! Thank you for your help with this!

As always, please don’t wait to let us know if there is anything you need, or anything we can do for your child or your family. Below please find a message and important dates from KEPTA, our dedicated Kennebunk Elementary PTA, and know that we appreciate any support you can provide them. They do so much for our school! Have a great weekend!

Yours in Education,

Mr. Quinn

Kelly Wright

Hello from KEPTA!

We are planning another wonderful year! The PTA’s mission is to serve all grade levels, pre-K through 2nd grade. To do that, we need your help:

Please consider becoming at KEPTA member. You can do so with just a $6 donation. Look for Membership Forms that were sent home the first few weeks of school. This small donation allows KEPTA to operate in Maine & raise money for KES. The donation is tax deductible & gets you a monthly email with our meeting minutes, so you’ll be “in the know” about what’s happening at the school. Still need a membership form? Email and a copy will be sent to you. The form and your check or cash can be sent to your child’s classroom in an envelope labeled “KEPTA”.

A lot of us shop online anyway, and if you spend money on Amazon Smile, it benefits KEPTA! Go to and choose “Kennebunk Elementary PTA” as your nonprofit of choice. Every time you shop on the Amazon Smile site, a percentage of sales goes to KEPTA.

Start saving Box Tops! We will count & send them in twice during the school year, but it is always a good time to begin collecting them to benefit KES.

Follow us on social media at and we will keep you posted on what KEPTA events are being planned & when we need volunteers. We have plenty of small volunteer opportunities throughout the year & plenty of bigger ways to give back, whatever works for your schedule!

Mark your calendars to join us for a meeting. Sept. 13 at noon in the KES Learning Lab, or the following month the meeting is Oct. 11 at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria.

KEPTA’s Ice Cream Social is Thursday, Sept. 20th. Ice cream, hot dogs and other cool sweet treats will be available to purchase at this annual fundraiser. It’s a fun way to meet other KES parents & get to know the kiddos your children see every day in school. And KEPTA’s Walk-a-Thon is scheduled for October 17th, so please SAVE THE DATE!

Thank you for your support!
