KES Newsletter - September 18, 2018

Hello KES Families,

I hope you are well on this rainy day. I don’t generally send a Newsletter mid week, but this early in the year we have a little more information to share with you than usual.

For parents who are new to KES, the long line of cars outside each day during pick-up time is gradually shrinking, and getting to the “25 minute wait” mark, which is where it generally levels off and stays. If you are coming to KES between 2:30pm and 3:15pm, please plan for a 25 minute wait in line. I know many of you have seen me wave buses into the opposite lane to allow them past the car pick-up line, which we are only able to do when we hold the oncoming traffic back to let the buses in. For drivers in personal vehicles, please understand you cannot leave the line and travel in the opposite lane. Without someone holding the on-coming traffic, you risk a head-on collision each time you drive in the opposite lane. Also, please do not leave vehicles unattended in line or along the sidewalk. If you are getting out of your vehicle to come into the building, please park in a parking space in the parking lot to do so.

I also wanted to let you know that Bus 12 is at maximum rider capacity and therefore we are unable to write bus slips allowing other children to ride that bus. We understand this may cause a hardship for some child-care situations. If this is the case for your child, please let us know and we will consider exceptions based on individual situations. We appreciate your patience while we figure out the larger issue of bus capacity and routes. We are still down 4 bus drivers and 1 dispatcher. If you know of anyone who is interested in either position, encourage them to visit our website to apply. We provide on-site training toward a CDL license. We also still have several Ed Tech positions in the district that we need to fill, so please consider RSU 21 if you are looking for new employment. It is a great place to work!

I also wanted to remind you that our Annual Ice Cream Social, sponsored by KEPTA is this Thursday from 4:00pm to 6:00pm behind KES, near the playground. In addition to Ice Cream, you will have the opportunity to purchase hot-dogs for dinner. We have always had a good turnout and we are hoping this year is no exception.

Looking down the road, on Monday October 29th from 6:00pm to 7:30pm there will be a Feedback Forum for Parents and Community Members in the KES Gym on proposals to change School Start Times in RSU 21. Proposals just at the Elementary level range from 7:40am-2:10pm to 9:30am-4:00pm. If the time-frame of the school day impacts the logistics of your family life, or if you just want to learn more about this topic, please consider joining us on October 29th.

Parents of 1st and 2nd graders, please see the message below from Mr. MIchaud and Miss Dugas regarding KES Kids Chorus. Have a great day!

Yours in Education,

Mr. Quinn

Hello KES Families!

We are excited to be offering another year of Kids Chorus to first and second graders at K.E.S! Our Kids Chorus program is a fun and structured introduction to singing and music. Students in this ensemble learn a mix of traditional favorites as well as some new pieces. They sharpen skills that are needed to work as part of a team, and gain confidence as they perform regularly at school meetings. Please use the link below to register your child!
