MSK Weekly Bulletin - September 8, 2017

It’s been a great first week of school and we hope your child had as much fun as we did. Welcome to our first weekly bulletin of the 2017/18 school year.  In this bulletin you will find current information on what is happening at MSK. Don’t forget to check out our website at

6th Grade Open House - Tuesday, Sept 12th at 6:30 pm
7th Grade Open House - Wednesday, September 13th at 6:30 pm
8th Grade Open House - Thursday, September 14th at 6:30 pm

Soccer for both boys and girls in grades 7 and 8 began on Thursday, September 7th. All other fall sports will begin on Monday, September 11th.

Late buses will be available after school for those who will need a ride home and will leave MSK at 4pm. Late bus routes differ from regular bus routes and students may need to walk a little further depending on their stop. For those athletes who will be participating in Tennis, they will take their regular bus to the high school for practice after school and will be able to get on the late bus from there, if needed.

Please make sure that you have provided us with the Medical Release form signed by a physician and you have filled out an Athletic Card and the Concussion Management form online through RankOne. This can be found by going to and clicking on the RankOne tab. Each athlete needs to have these three things completed before they will be allowed to participate.

If you have any questions, call the Main Office at (207) 467-8004 or email Andrew Coulombe at

Academic Homework Help begins Monday, September 18th and takes place every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday after school until 3:50 p.m. (while school is in session). Late buses are available for transportation home.

The MSK Parent Teacher Group would like to welcome you to a new school year! We are looking forward to another successful year supporting the Middle School of the Kennebunks. Our first meeting will take place on Thursday, September 14th at 9:00 a.m. We hope you can join us.  Please see the important information below about our upcoming Superwalk:

The MSK PTG is pleased to kick off our pledge drive for our 5th annual SUPERWALK fundraiser on Friday, September 22nd. This successful event is our ONE major fundraiser of the year.  Students are asked to raise pledges to fund the MSK PTG grant fund. This fund is used to support teacher grants, pay for the ever-rising cost of field trips and support new school initiatives. We are in need of your support! Students were given pledge envelopes during the first week of classes.  Please encourage your child to seek pledges and return the envelope to their advisor before or on the day of the walk. The more we raise, the more we can help!

You will hear more about this during the open houses scheduled for next week. If you have any questions, please contact us at Thank you for your support, Connie Plaisted

Just a reminder that the 7th grade parent information meeting for students attending the Leadership School at Camp Kieve is scheduled for Tuesday evening, September 19th at 6:30 p.m. here at MSK. Please contact your child’s advisor if you have any questions or concerns.

Snacks are available to purchase every day after school in the MSK cafetorium until 2:15 p.m. Purchases are made through student lunch accounts and meet the smart snack guidelines. Power Snack Packs are only $1.00 and include student choice of 3 items from a selection of foods. Options are available for students who qualify for free and reduced meals.

The MSK cafe offers 2nd chance breakfast between 1st and 2nd blocks in the main lobby for any student who would like to purchase a breakfast meal or snack.  We offer grab and go meals with cereal or breakfast items for $1.75 or free if you qualify for free or reduced meals.
Our 1st dance is scheduled for September 22nd. Our times have changed!  Dances take place from 6:30pm-8:30pm and are open to all 7th and 8th graders.  The cost is $5.00 -- refreshments will be available for purchase. Please note that the January dance date will be changed due the school musical scheduled the same weekend.

CLYNK bags are available at the office with tags already applied. THIS IS AN EASY WAY TO HELP MSK RAISE FUNDS BY RETURNING YOUR BOTTLES AND CANS USING THE CLYNK PROGRAM. To redeem bottles and cans: Fill the CLYNK bags, take your bags to any Hannaford, then scan each bag with the hand scanner and place your bags inside the unlocked door at any Hannaford/CLYNK bottle return location. Your bottles and cans will be sent to CLYNK to be counted and a credit will be applied to our MSK CLYNK account to be used for student support. PLEASE HELP YOURSELF TO CLYNK BAGS ANY TIME YOU VISIT MSK!

A variety of clubs start up at different times throughout the school year depending on student and staff interests.  Below is a list of current clubs.  We will announce new club opportunities as they happen both in this weekly bulletin and through student announcements during the school day.  Stay tuned!

Our community is surrounded by amazing rivers to fish and canoe, beaches with waves to surf, and mountains to climb. A web of hiking and mountain biking trails connects us to our local forests, lakes, and rivers. The MSK Outing Club is all about getting together to have fun adventuring the outdoors while sharing our passions. The outing club is open to all grades and takes place every Tuesday after school. Our first meeting will take place after school next Tuesday in Mr. Costello's room and we will plan this fall's outing adventures. Students can sign up on the white board in front of the office. All information on upcoming outings, pick up times, and pick up locations will be posted on the outing club website: or google: rsu21 outing club. For more information contact Nick Costello:

All MSK students are invited to come and play a variety of strategy games such as, chess, Risk, Stratego, Moncala, Pandemic and others. Students are encouraged to bring any non-electronic board game or cards they would like to share as well. This club takes place on Wednesdays after school in Mr. Coleman’s classroom (room 710). If you have any questions, please contact Matt Coleman at
