8TH GRADE COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT
Do you like free pizza and movies? Tickets are going to be sold for a raffle in the MSK lobby from January 22 until February 2 for Lauren Poulin’s IB Community Service Project. You could win a $50-50 Local gift certificate, a $20-Kennebunk House of Pizza gift card, a $25-Squaretoe’s gift certificate, or a Smitty’s Cinema gift bag. Tickets are $1 each or $8 for 10. All money goes to supporting the education of girls in Guatemala.
LUNCH MENU SWITCH
Please be aware that lunch menus for next Tuesday (1/16) and Thursday (1/18) will be switched. Tuesday will be BBQ Chicken with a Biscuit and Thursday will be Chicken Fried Rice.
SWIM TEAM INFORMATIONAL MEETING
There will be a Swim Team Informational Meeting for new swimmers and their parents on Wednesday, Feb. 7th in the school library from 6:00-6:30 pm. Please attend if you are interested in finding out about try-outs requirements, ordering suits, and the schedule for practices and meets.
All swimmers new to the MSK team must tryout. Tryouts will be Feb. 26th at the YMCA in Biddeford. The swim bus will leave MSK at 2:00 pm for the Y practice which is 2:30-3:30. The swim bus will return to MSK for the 4:00 pm late bus. Open spots are limited, so interested swimmers should be able to swim a 50 freestyle with proper breathing in 50 seconds or less. Also swimmers must be able to commit to 4 days of practice per week (2:30-3:30 pm) and 5 Friday evening meets.
Practice for swimmers who have been on the team last year will start Feb. 27th. The swim bus leaves MSK at 2:00 pm for the 2:30 Y practice and returns for the 4:00 pm late bus at MSK.

Academic Homework Help typically takes place every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday after school until 3:50 p.m. Please remember that this is an academic assistance program and not meant as an after school care program. Late buses are available for transportation home.
AFTER SCHOOL SNACKS
Snacks are available to purchase every day after school in the MSK cafetorium until 2:15 p.m. Purchases are made through student lunch accounts and meet the smart snack guidelines. Power Snack Packs are only $1.00 and include student choice of 3 items from a selection of foods. Options are available for students who qualify for free and reduced meals.
SECOND CHANCE BREAKFAST
The MSK cafe offers 2nd chance breakfast between 1st and 2nd blocks in the main lobby for any student who would like to purchase a breakfast meal or snack. We offer grab and go meals with cereal or breakfast items for $1.75 or free if you qualify for free or reduced meals.
CLYNK bags are available at the office with tags already applied. THIS IS AN EASY WAY TO HELP MSK RAISE FUNDS BY RETURNING YOUR BOTTLES AND CANS USING THE CLYNK PROGRAM. To redeem bottles and cans: Fill the CLYNK bags, take your bags to any Hannaford, then scan each bag with the hand scanner and place your bags inside the unlocked door at any Hannaford/CLYNK bottle return location. Your bottles and cans will be sent to CLYNK to be counted and a credit will be applied to our MSK CLYNK account to be used for student support. PLEASE HELP YOURSELF TO CLYNK BAGS ANY TIME YOU VISIT MSK!
MSK CLUBS - 2nd QTR
A variety of clubs start up at different times throughout the school year depending on student and staff interests. Below is a list of current clubs. We will announce new club opportunities as they happen both in this weekly bulletin and through student announcements during the school day. Stay tuned!
ART OPEN STUDIO
This club takes place every Wednesday after school until 3:45 p.m. Space is limited to 20 students so we ask that you sign up prior to participating each week. Open Studio takes place in room 506 with Art Teacher Brendan Roddy as the advisor. Mr Roddy can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org for questions.
CIVIL RIGHTS TEAM
The MSK Civil Rights Team has begun and is open to students in all grades 6-8. This team typically meets on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month from 2:15 - 3:45 p.m. in room 612 with Mrs. McGlashan as the advisor. The Civil Rights Team is a club that will engage our school community in thinking and talking about issues related to race and skin color, national origin and ancestry, religion, disabilities, gender (including gender identity and expression), and sexual orientation. The CRT will meet every other week throughout the year and will be active in ensuring that MSK is a safe and welcoming place for all students, staff, and community members. GIRLS WHO CODE CLUB
This girls only club aims to close the gender gap in technology. Girls learn to build apps, design games, build websites, and develop friendships through code. This takes place on Thursdays after school in the Swift Center throughout the year. Coaches: Jennifer Maher and Joanna Buckley. 6TH GRADE MATH TEAM
6th grade math team practice is held every Monday after school until 3:45 p.m. This takes place in room 806. Mrs. Neale is the advisor and can be reached at email@example.com with questions.
7TH & 8TH GRADE MATH TEAMS
Practices for SMML math team meets every other Tuesday through early May after school until 3:45 p.m. in room 612. The teams will attend three after-school meets and one day meet in Portland. MATH COUNTS (GRADES 7 & 8)
MathCounts is a more intense and advanced math team experience that meets after school with Mrs. McGlashan in room 612 until 3:45 p.m. every other Tuesday. MathCounts students will have a full practice and engage with MC concepts and problems during SMML math team practice. Ten MC students will attend the regional meet on a Saturday in late January or early February. Mrs. McGlashan is the advisor and can be reached at email@example.com with questions.
There are no activities scheduled until after February vacation. The MSK Outing Club is all about getting together to have fun adventuring the outdoors while sharing our passions. The outing club is open to all grades and takes place every Tuesday after school (weather permitting). STRATEGY GAMES CLUB
All MSK students are invited to come and play a variety of strategy games such as, chess, Risk, Stratego, Moncala, Pandemic and others. Students are encouraged to bring any non-electronic board game or cards they would like to share as well. This club takes place on Wednesdays after school in Mr. Coleman’s classroom (room 710). All students in grades 6-8 are invited to participate and we always welcome new members. Meetings are typically held on Wednesday mornings at 8:00 a.m. in room 705.
