COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS
8th grade students at MSK participate in a “Community Service Project” as a culmination of their International Baccalaureate experience. Students are allowed to select groups and work to identify a need in the community that matches a personal area of interest. During this year long, self-directed undertaking, students work to plan and implement a project that will impact the area of need they have identified. In this bulletin we will list some current projects that students would like to share.
SMILES FOR SHEA - Please see the flyer attached from Avah Bedard and Sarah Barry about a dance fundraiser (8th graders only please) to support Shea as she battles brain cancer.

MORNING DROP OFF
Reminder: If you drive your child to school in the morning and drop off in the front of the building, please pull up as far as possible. Additionally, DO NOT drop off in the parking lot as this presents a safety issue for students. The parking lot is to be used only if you park and come into the building.
An alternative drop off spot is in the parking lot behind the Dorothy Stevens Center. If you drive your child to school you can travel via Alewive Road, go past the Elementary school and turn left on to Thompson Road. Then you can enter the driveway between the Dorothy Stevens Center and MSK for a faster drop off. (Please remember to enter the lot itself to drop off at the crosswalk and continue around to exit the lot so as not to interfere with buses and other vehicle traffic). Students will enter the building through the glass hallway.
Homework Help runs every Monday-Wednesday that school is in session from 2:15 until the late bus. Students may attend homework help if:
They currently have a W in one or more classes.
They have missed one or more days of school and need to make up work.
They are requested by a classroom teacher to attend.
They need to use school books, technology, and/or materials that may not be available at home.
They have prior approved arrangements with a classroom teacher and/or the Homework Help Coordinator, Nicole Desjardins.
Students are required to stay the entire time until 3:45 unless a parent calls the main office to dismiss them early. Homework Help advisor, Nicole Desjardins can be reached at email@example.com with questions.

KENNEBUNK COSTA RICA TRIP, SUMMER 2019
Pura Vida! Next summer, Ms. Jardine (MSK Spanish teacher), will be taking interested Kennebunk students to Costa Rica, departing in early July. Traveling students will experience an adventure-filled eight days to include hiking rain forest preserves, waterfalls, and volcanoes, lessons in ecology and geology, providing service at a wildlife refuge, zip lining, caving, and even surfing lessons! This is a wonderful opportunity to experience Latin America, enjoy natural surroundings, sample authentic foods, and practice language skills.
Please note, this is not a school-sponsored trip; it will run through Students Love Travel, a New Hampshire owned and operated company experienced in student travel. For more information, please email Ms. Jardine at firstname.lastname@example.org or visit Students Love Travel at: https://studentslovetravel.com/programs/private/costarica/wildlife-rescue
KENNEBUNK PARIS TRIP 2019
Next spring, Mr. Williams (MSK French teacher), will be taking interested Kennebunk students (grades 7-12) to Paris and Versailles over April Vacation. This is not a school-sponsored trip.
The in-depth exploration of Paris allows time to appreciate the neighborhoods, cuisine, and culture of the city, while students flex their navigation, budgeting, and language skills. Choosing the perfect bistro, brasserie, café or crêperie for dinner each evening, preparing for a picnic in the Jardins de Luxembourg, and shopping on the Champs-Elysées will provide a lifetime of memories for everyone.
