Last night the RSU 21 Board of Directors voted unanimously to extend the timeline for the work of the School Start Time Committee. This extended time will allow the committee to increase opportunities for public discussion and to more fully analyze the feedback from the Community Forum and surveys. Additionally, as part of the vote, the Board removed the previous directive to develop cost-neutral proposals and asked the committee to specify the costs needed to retain existing programs. While this will likely push any potential change out to the 2020-21 school year, the School Board understands the need to fully understand this complex issue.
Here are some next steps:
11/6 (Today): Q&A with our Athletic Director, at KHS, from 6:00-7:00 p.m.
11/9: Surveys close
11/13: School Start Time Committee will meet, at KES, from 5:30-7:00 p.m. to review the data
11/19: A brief update and draft timeline will be provided to the School Board, at Sea Road School, at 7:00 p.m.
12/3: School Start Time Forum and Survey Data presented to the School Board for initial review, at KHS, at 7:00 p.m.
Additional committee dates will be scheduled throughout the spring to more closely evaluate top proposals.
