Benefits and Open Enrollment
2025 Employee Guide to Open Enrollment
RSU 21 offers a benefits package to all employees who work at least 15 hours per week or who have benefits negotiated through one of our collective bargaining agreements. Click on the links below for additional details and plan summaries. Here is a brief overview of what we offer:
Health Insurance: You have your choice of POS or PPO through Anthem BlueCross BlueShield. Full-time employees contribute a small percentage of the health insurance premium. There is also a generous employer contribution towards coverage for those employees who work less than full time. Coverage for other family members is available and is made affordable through cost sharing.
Vision Insurance: This is included at no additional cost in all of our health insurance plans.
Dental Insurance: Single coverage is paid in full by RSU 21 for all employees who work 15 hours or more each week. Coverage for other family members is available and is made affordable through cost sharing. Dental insurance coverage is provided through Maine School Management Association (MSMA).
Retirement Plans: Pension plans are offered through the Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS) for employees who work at least 25 hours per week. Administrators, Teachers, and Educational Technicians (II and III) are required to enroll in the MainePERS retirement program. Contact MainePERS by email at www.mainepers.org or phone at either (207) 512-3100 or 1(800)451-9800.
RSU 21 also offers voluntary 403 (b) plans. Employees working 15 hours or more each week may enroll in a voluntary 403(b) Plan with one of our participating vendors, all of which are administered by TSA Consulting Group, Inc.
Group Life Insurance: This is an elective insurance option. Coverage is provided through MainePERS.
Flexible Spending Accounts: Enrollees may make pre-tax contributions to be spent on their health/dental care and/or dependent care needs. FSA plans are administered by Horace Mann or WageWorks.
Member Assistance Program (MAP): Also referred to as the Employee Assistance Program, the MAP is available to all employees and provides quick and easy access to confidential counseling and referral services to help you deal with daily work and life challenges. It is employer-sponsored, so it is available at no cost to you, your dependents or household members.
