JKF - DISCIPLINE OF STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES

  1. Removal of Students with Disabilities.
    When removing students with disabilities from their regular school programs, whether as a result of a suspension, an expulsion, or any other removal covered by state and federal special education laws, it shall be the policy of Regional School Unit 21 to comply fully with all applicable state and federal special education laws that govern such removals.
     
  2. Definition: "Students with Disabilities"
    Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), a "student with a disability" is a child who has a physical, learning, emotional, or developmental condition that affects their ability to learn and succeed in school. To qualify, the child must need special education or related services to support their learning. Examples of disabilities include learning disabilities, autism, hearing or vision impairments, and physical or health challenges.
     
  3. Procedures.
    The Superintendent, in consultation with the Director of Special Education and other school administrators, may develop and communicate procedures for implementing this policy and may, from time to time, amend those procedures as necessary.
