- Prior to dismissing a student from school, the school shall receive authorization from the parent/guardian to release the pupil. In the case of children of divorced or separated parents, the school must be notified of the legal rights of both parents. Foster children, or state wards, may be dismissed only to a person, or agency representative, who has shown legal authorization.
- Pupils shall be dismissed from school for absences that are defined as “excusable” under Policy JEA, including, without limitation, physical, mental, and behavioral health issues, observance of a recognized religious holiday when the observance is required during the regular school day and family emergencies.
- Prior to dismissing a student from school for illness, the school shall receive authorization from the parent/guardian/emergency contact to release the pupil for care at a home.
- In the event of a school situation that requires immediate dismissal, schools shall have procedures in place, aligned with the Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, to contact and release pupils to individuals authorized by the parent/guardian.
