Kennebunkport Consolidated School held its annual Wellness Day on Wednesday, March 6th. It was a fantastic day filled with many great presenters that touched upon many facets of the 5210 Let’s Go! model that RSU 21 strives to follow. The amazing efforts of the Kennebunkport Consolidated Wellness Team came together to create a day that was valuable for students and staff alike. The children learned about healthy gardening from farmers who came in from Blackrock Farm. The seedlings that were planted will be used to start a school garden at the beginning of next year upon completion of the renovation project. Students also learned about the 5210 model in a presentation from Amy Bouchard from Southern Maine Health care. Ms. Miller led an action packed session of aerobic activity and the students were treated to a “sugar session” from local parent, Stephanie Redmond, where they learned the deceiving sugar content in many of their favorite drinks. Dr. Meghan Boucher from Boucher Chiropractic led a terrific session on nutrition with the students and the day was capped of by a giant inflatable obstacle course that was brought in by Nick Wright at Sharp Pencil Creative, Inc. and generously funded by the law firm of Drummond and Drummond. The second half of the day was well received by teachers as they were also treated to some wellness activities. Local parent and yoga instructor, Mindy Muse led a session of yoga and Dr. Meghan from Boucher Chiropractic also did a nutrition discussion with the staff as well.
